シリーズ紹介
今回ご紹介させていただくのは、３つのシリーズです。いずれも、アメリカの小学生を対象にした、ネイティブ用のノンフィクションの児童書です。
- Who Was...シリーズ：過去の偉人、現在も活躍する偉人の生涯や半生を紹介。
- Where Is...シリーズ：世界の観光地や、歴史上重要な場所などを紹介。
- What Was...シリーズ：歴史的事件や、歴史上重要な時代などについて紹介。
表紙には以下のようなWho HQのマークがついています。
いずれも、8,000語程度の分量で、YLは2.8～3.8程度の児童書で、2022年12月の時点で、シリーズ合わせて250タイトル以上が刊行されていて、2000万部以上売り上げている人気のシリーズです。
ほぼ毎ページにイラストが挿し込まれていて、最後の章が終わると、その本の出来事の年表とともに、世界年表が付されています。
巻末には参考文献も載せられ、大人向けの本の入り口の雰囲気もする児童書です。
